Philippines

Dr. Glenda de Villa graduated from the University of the Philippines College of Dentistry. She did her residency training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the St. Martin de Porres Charity Hospital in San Juan, Philippines and her fellowship in Craniofacial Surgery at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan.  She is the Chairman of the Department of Dental Medicine at the Asian Hospital and Medical Center and the Chairman of the Our Lady of Peace Craniofacial Center at Our Lady of Peace Hospital in Parañaque. Dr. de Villa has been working with cleft patients for 25 years.

She is currently a Board Member and working volunteer of the Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation Philippines, Inc. which holds weekly clinics for the comprehensive management of children and adults with the cleft lip and palate difference. To date the center has performed around 5,461 cleft surgeries and taken care of more than 5,811 cleft patients since it started in 2003. This team began the paradigm shift in the management of cleft patients in the Philippines. They organized a dream craniofacial team and made possible the comprehensive treatment of cleft patients by volunteers such that even the poorest of the poor can get the ideal treatment from birth to adulthood, with the help of local and international sponsors. The advocacy is not just to treat the cleft deformity but to pave the way for the social integration of this person when the time comes for him or her to become a productive member of society.
